Our Radiation Oncology physicians work with patients and families, and the cancer care team within the community. Our staff works with patients, medical oncologists, surgeons, primary care physicians, gynecologists, and other members of the patient's team in a collaborative fashion to provide coordinated care. We ensure accurate communication between all members of the care team so that they are aware of cancer care plans, treatments, and results. Although the large majority of patient treatment visits can be done at the community cancer care location, patients will certainly have access to highly specialized simulation (mapping and planning for treatment), selected types of treatments, and other radiation oncology services at Hartford Hospital should these be necessary. This ensures the notion that one "system of Radiation Oncology care" will be provided in a seamless fashion to the patient with the majority of visits (average of 5 to 6 weeks) in the community but access to specialized services when necessary for optimal care. Our Radiation Oncology services are the result of a team of highly trained and experienced staff all of whom are focused on providing an optimal quality treatment experience for patients. In collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist, this staff includes Radiation Oncology technologists, nurses, physicists, dosimetrists, engineers, and clerical staff. This team is responsible for all of the technical and clinical aspects of treatment delivery. Helping to ensure accuracy of therapy is a network of highly sophisticated computers between all of the facilities connected with dedicated lines which ensure accurate transmission of clinical and technical information between all of our facilities. I am indeed privileged to work with a fine team of Radiation Oncology physicians, and Radiation Oncology staff to bring this service to cancer patients and families East of the Connecticut River. The benefits of Hartford Hospital's nationally recognized Radiation Oncology program, combined with our community accessibility in northern and eastern Connecticut, coordinated with the patients own cancer care team, results in an excellent quality of cancer care delivery for the patients we serve.
