Philanthropy

Do you have a friend or family member whose life has been affected by cancer? For most of us, the answer is yes. Over 1.2 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Today in the United States, a patient with cancer has a better than 55% chance of the disease being controlled or cured, up from 25% in 1950. And this figure does not include in-situ cervical cancers or non-melanoma skin cancer, for which the cure rate exceeds 90%.

"Your support is greatly needed and deeply appreciated."

About 60% of all cancer patients will require radiation therapy during some phase of their cancer care. Cancer patients east of the Connecticut River are extremely fortunate to have radiation therapy services available to them close to family, home, and support network. Since most treatment courses run 5 days a week for 6 to 8 weeks, driving to a downtown facility can be a hardship for the elderly, very sick, and working patients. Accessible centers in Enfield and Manchester have ample parking and free valet service.

Community CancerCare is a not-for-profit organization partially supported by revenue from operations (Medicare, insurance reimbursement, and patient billing). However, philanthropy allows for the purchase of important medical technology and provision of high-quality radiation therapy services. Without the generous donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations the high quality radiation treatment facilities we have in Enfield and Manchester would not exist. In addition, philanthropy enables us to make this resource available to everyone who needs it: no patient has ever been turned away for lack of insurance or inability to pay.

Honor the memory of a loved one or celebrate the accomplishment of a friend or family member by helping others. Make a memorial or tribute donation or make a donation designated toward a specific purpose. When you make a memorial or tribute donation, Community CancerCare will send an acknowledgement card to the family of the honoree. Community CancerCare is incorporated under IRS code 501(c)(3) as a non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Special Gift Areas

Donors can designate their contributions to support a specific need at Community CancerCare. Some of the areas currently requiring support include:

Equipment: Radiation therapy requires the use of very specialized sophisticated equipment. Within the past year Community CancerCare has purchased software and equipment for "virtual" simulation at both sites.

General Operations: This fund helps insure that Community CancerCare can maintain all of its services and programs.

Patient Assistance: This fund helps pay for the cost of treating charity care patients, such as patients with no health insurance or those on fixed incomes.

How to Make an Honor or Memorial Gift

To make a donation in honor or memory of a special person or an event, please make your check payable to Community CancerCare and send it to Community CancerCare Development Office, Phoenix Community Cancer Center, 142 Hazard Ave., Enfield, CT 06082. Please provide us with your name and address (so we can send you a receipt), the tribute/memorial name, and the address for the tribute/memorial card. For example:

Gift from:John Doe
Two Main St.
Anywhere, CT 06082

In memory of:Sue Smith

Send acknowledgement to:The Smith Family
Two Maple St.
Anywhere, CT 06082

If you would like to designate your gift to a specific fund, please indicate the fund as well.

Your support is greatly needed and deeply appreciated. We hope you will join us by making a generous contribution to Community CancerCare. This will be more than a donation; rather, it will be an investment in a program that will save and enhance the lives of cancer patients for years to come in your community.
