This Cancer Center was dedicated in honor of John A. DeQuattro, who was President of J.D. Real Estate Company and Affiliates of Manchester and a volunteer leader in a wide variety of civic affairs in the greater Hartford area. Very active in civic affairs throughout his life, Mr. DeQuattro was especially known for his long-term association with and leadership of Manchester Memorial Hospital (MMH) and its parent, Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN). A Trustee of MMH starting in 1974, Mr. DeQuattro served as chairman of its Planning Committee for many years, as First Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1983 to 1993, and as Chairman from 1993 to 1996. He was a member of the Steering Committee that formulated the merger of the corporate parents of MMH and Rockville General Hospital. He served as an officer of the Board of Trustees of the resulting new health system, ECHN, first as Vice Chairman from 1995 to 1996 and then as Chairman starting in 1996 until his retirement in 1998. In addition, he served as Chairman of Manchester Memorial Hospital's Prescription '84 Building Fund Drive, which surpassed its $4 million goal and helped make possible the single largest expansion project in the hospital's history. He also served as a Director of the Connecticut Hospital Association and as a member of the American Hospital Association's Council on Patient Services. On April 5, 1999, The John A. DeQuattro Community Cancer Center was dedicated in his honor. Mr. DeQuattro died on April 20, 1999. |
